Laurel Hill Creek DHALO boyscout camp, Somerset Co., 11/1/2008

Met Ryan and Greg at the BoyScout camp and proceded to fish the big slow pools with indicators and eggs. Fish did not come easily but they came, so it was good.

At about 11am, risers were showing on an inconsistant basis. As the day warmed more and more risers showed. Took a brown on a #14 black stonefly and missed another shortly thereafter but showed that same fly to half a dozen more risers with no interest, no takes. Everyone talked to on the stream noticed the risers, few had it figured out. Still, dry fly fishing in stocked water in Nov, not too shabby....

I enjoyed fishing with Andrew and Ryan today. I also enjoyed meeting the other Greg who reads here but doesn't post much.

Like Andrew said, it was pretty cool fishing dries in November. I managed one brown on top and missed a few other rises to my dry (a black caddis trying to imitate the little black stoneflys comming off). Most of my fish came to egg patterns.

This beautiful 17 inch brown with shoulders came on an olive bugger, my only fish on a streamer today.

Fished Humbert to day...probably caught 7 or 8 half on dries and half of the egg dropper I had below the dry at a certain point. Got them on caddis, adams and a small black quill I had that I thought they might like...they did...had way more takes then I did hook ups but as was said yesterday, hey I'm dry fly fishing in November...All the fish were 14 or bigger...all rainbows. Gorgeous day.

I concur with what the other three have already reported. I must qualify my next statement as such, I have not gotten out too much this year due to a myriad of things. Ok now I can say that it was probably my best dry fly outing of the year. I was fishing away from the other two when I noticed a handful of rises. They became consistent and when I looked up I saw a fair amount of black stones in the air #14. Well I just happened to have one that I tied and proceeded to take two in short order on top. Both fish were nice browns.

Matching the hatch in November is pretty cool.
