Did a little exploring at Laurel Hill SP yesterday with my daughter. Hit up Jones Mill Run and pocket hopped. Great little stream with a mix of stockies, wild brooks and browns. I prospected with a green weenie while my daughter rocked the garden hackle. I wrangled up a few brookies and browns with a lot of long releases. Daughter caught a nice stockie right off the bat and proceeded to catch a few wild trout as well. She’s coming a long way, reminding me to wet my hands before I handle these little gems.
After this headed back to Ligonier area to fish Linn Run. I wanted to check it out after the severe flooding that happened last month. From what I could see, the flooding was not kind to this stream. Many areas seemed to have endless stretches of rock dams where the stream seems to disappear into the earth and then re-emerges a ways downstream. At any event, my daughter and I each caught and released 1 wild brookie a piece with not any more bites. Maybe we were just off our game (I hope so) or something happened during that flood that impacted the native population. Regularly in the past,summertime trips here easily led to double digit sessions for both me and her. It seems like there was a generally orangish tiny to the stream bed and I saw many side channels with AMD water. Sorta looks like there could have been an AMD discharge with all of the flooding that happened but I hope I’m wrong.... Finished off the day by hitting Flat Rock for some afternoon water sliding. Great Day!
