Late May/Early June Weekend Getaway- North Central PA

Hi everybody, I was hoping for some spot suggestions. I’m looking to plan a solo weekend getaway in late May/early June. I live in Berks Co and was thinking about the north central Pa area.

I’m looking for (in this order):

Solitude- you guys are all fantastic but I don’t want to run into you for a couple days lol

Fish- my family life is crazy busy so I only get to fish maybe a few hours every other week. I don’t want the whole weekend to be a total bust

Scenery - I don’t mind small hikes if it can get me to some great spots

Looking forward to hearing any suggestions you may have. Feel free to PM if you don’t want to spot burn

'Weekend' is in the title of your post-I get it; but bear in mind, that time of year is primo (good choice!) for coldwater trout fishing across most of the eastern 1/2 of the country, let alone north central PA. If there is any way you can go during the week, if you want to avoid people, that's my strong suggestion. When I take out of town fishing trips, I shoot to travel on Sun/Mon, fish Mon-Thurs to avoid people; and to date doing so, it has worked. Good luck planning your trip! For me planning a location/camping/lodging is part of the fun of it.

Totally valid point! I used to work weekends in my last career and that would have worked out way better for this but unfortunately nowadays the weekend is my only option. Along with just about everyone else lol. I went out on the Tulpehocken on the first nice weekend about a month ago and it was awful. I’ve never seen so many other fisherman, many right up my butt on the creek. I don’t mind running across others, I just don’t want THAT

There are several state parks in northern lycoming, northerm clinton, southern potter that give you access to bigger stocked trout water and more wild trout tribs than you can fish in a lifetime.

Avoid memorial day weekend at all costs to avoid crowds

Pick a spot and fish it. I'm not trying to be a smart arse, but you're going to get advice from guys about where THEY have fished or where THEY enjoy and that advice isn't necessarily going to be any better than throwing a dart at a board on the wall. All of northcentral Pennsylvania is covered with stocked trout waters and some very fine wild trout fishing. Personally, I'd pick based on the quality of campgrounds if that's your plan or the quality/price/location of motels or cottages if that's your plan. If you're going to be there for 2 or 3 days, you'll have PLENTY of places to fish and you might surprise yourself and find your new favorite stream, but don't be surprised or hurt if guys aren't quick to give you names or locations of hot spots or streams.

I absolutely agree. The main reason I ask for some suggestions is because it’s so few and far between when I get an opportunity like this I don’t want to waste it. It does seem like that whole area up there is a pretty safe bet

Find a place to stay first, the area around Cedar Run/Slate Run./ Kettle Creek is ideal and drive every day to creeks you want to fish.

IF you stay away from the big well known stocked places like Big & Little Pine and lower Kettle Creek & lower Cross Fork , you should find PLENTY of solitude at that time of year.

When I went there I would fish nothing but Class A and Natural Reproduction sections and I doubt I ever saw more than 6 people total in over 15 years and MAYBE once I encountered another fisherman...

I have to agree with Joe and Bam.
It is prime time up that way for hatches along with the holiday weekend.
Lot of cabins up that way.
I would try later into June before the kids get out of school or the last weekend in August these are the least popular weekends for camping or cabins in the summer months.
Good luck with lack of crowds otherwise.
