Large Hex Hatch last night

Hexagenia (Brown Drake) Lake Clark / Susquehanna / Always incredible to see. I expect to see this hatch closer to the end of June. No fish were hitting on top. I've found the best Hex fishing to be several days after the hatch.

Dear barry,

Yeah, this time of year it's always interesting to stop for gas at night along N. Front St in Harrisburg. You never know what insects are swarming under the lights of the gas station canopy but there is always something!

Is the Hex hatch heaviest in the Lake Clark section? Does the impoundment create better habitat for them than the free flowing river?

I don't know if it's heaviest in the Lake Clark area. It would take a lot to beat it.

I read in a previous post a couple of years ago, that the silt behind the dam makes for the perfect growing conditions.

The hatch is somewhat localized. Wrightsville hasn't seen it as of yesterday.

I’m sure you know that given hatch occurrences often progress upstream as water temps gradually warm. It’s possible that the hatch has started in the Lake Clark area first because the impounded water may be a bit warmer than the free flowing water. Water temp at Safe Harbor Dam, the lower end of Lake Ckark, was 77F on Friday.
