Lake Marburg, York County, 8/21/12

With this beautiful, cool weather, the bite is picking up pretty good. The Fall Bite is just around the corner? I didn't take a temp, but the water is still pretty warm.

I nailed the bluegills, and also got a few white perch, yellow perch, and small largemouth bass. I used a rubber leg popper for top water, and size 14 beadhead nymphs for the underwater. I tie all my stuff, so a variation of several nymphs.

I have a 3wt Helios and just put some "Scientific Anglers" Supra WF3F and I like it much better than the more expensive Orvis lines! High float and no memory, and casts almost as good as Sharkskin ..... but with no tape on fingers! LOL

The trout streams are still a little slow for me (maybe another month), so is the once great Susquehanna, and Steelheads won't start for a while, but I still have mega fun with the 'gills and a tiny rod!

I'm a C&R guy, but I kept 6 big bluegills for some very tasty tablefare. From a clean, drinking water deep lake, the sunfish fillets are a wonderful thing!

Great report! Glad to see some WW lakes and panfish get some focus - some mighty nice sized 'gills there.

I always enjoy a day on Lake Marburg, even when it's windy. Good quality clear water fishing.

All three! A friend has a bass boat. I have a yak and float tube, but the most fun / action is wading.

It's still warm enough to wet wade. The first and last couple hours have the fish on top.

Most folks cast a big senko or spinnerbait all day and maybe catch a couple tiny bass, but I like to catch 100 sunfish?

Marburg has 26 miles of shoreline. Every place is packed with bluegills pretty good. If you cast a bead head nymph between the weeds, I'll bet you will hookup with something? If little fish, then use a little rod!

Was in the area this afternoon and stopped in real quick, you guys had my interest peaked. The water looked real good. No boat, no waders, no hip boots, no wet wading. I was just sneaking around and fishing from the bank in my Carhart pants and Redwing Boots. It was the heat of the afternoon and there was not any surface activity to speak of. I still managed to nail some bluegills and green sunfish fishing underneath. Lots of fun!

Thanks for the info, 1wt!! I think I'm going to take my daughter
there Sunday and see if we can catch some 'gills. Taking my 3wt
and tying some bead heads tomorrow 🙂

I was down past the lake on Blooming Grove Road yesterday while at work and it is definitely down. I'd say a few feet which exposes a nice, dirt "walkway" around the whole lake. You actually have more access to the lake now than when it's full. I typically don't see it at this level until late summer or early fall.

Yeah, that's true, but when the lake is full the shoreline is easily wade-able and holds great cover for the fish.

Very thick shoreline weeds this year...... we never got cold ice last year to kill the growth.

But, I still catch a bunch if fishing from a boat or the shore!
