Spent a couple hours paddling around this afternoon. Busy day with a lot of folks out at Codorus SP, although the number of boats on the water was actually fairly light. I fished a couple coves and out around round island.
WEATHER: Blue bird skies, turning slightly cloudy, temp in the upper 60s.
WATER: Very clear, 60 degrees, calm. No insects or bait activity.
The area I fished is still clear bottom with no emergent vegetation yet. The lake is also still very low, In fact, one can easily walk the shoreline right now as there is about 20' of dry ground from the regular pool level shoreline and people were taking advantage of this walking dogs etc. Many of the catfish spawning boxes were high and dry. If you want to familarize yourself with shoreline structure, now is the time to walk the lake.
I usually focus this time of year on shoreline flooded bushes and blow downs for panfish but most of my favorite spots were high and dry. I did get a bass from a downed tree on a big buggy nymph but careful inspection did not reveal any fish that I could see. There were some bluegills way back at the far end of a cove right on the water's edge and they were willing to eat, but overall, the fishing was tough and there were few fish to see and no crappies. I think the post-frontal conditions combined with colder temps in recent days may have shut down the action.
