Stopped by at Codorus State Park briefly yesterday afternoon while on my way through Hanover. Was targeting bluegills.
Weather: Blue bird skies with air temp in mid 70s; breezy.
Water: Clear, temp of 70 degrees, some emergent vegetation;
fairly large boater use and crowded shorelines.
Flies used: nymphs under bushy dries.
I usually expect poor fishing, especially on lakes, following a cold front and with the conditions yesterday my expectations were low. But. . . it was a beautiful day and I had a couple hours. Post frontal conditions, although they bring cool and gorgeous weather, often put fish down. Nevertheless, I expected to catch a few 'gills in my usual favorite shoreline spots - really anywhere there are blow downs or flooded shoreline willows can produce good panfish in the springtime. However, the fish were gone. I saw and caught a few dinks but with the high sun and being on the water at mid-day. . .the fishing was just dead. I saw no redds or sizable fish along the shore.
I'd say that, from now on, I'd expect summer fishing conditions on the lakes in which low light is better for panfish.
