Lackawaxen River, Pike Co., 04/15/2012

Had to run up to the house so I could'nt pass up a few hours on a stream. I've never been to the Lack so I started looking around Hawley. So much water to pick a spot. I wound up a few miles up from the famous Zane Grey museum. Im not up on hatches (still learning), so I just did a little prospecting with a Prince nymph. Water was pretty clear and clearly lower than usual. Found a nice looking area with little pressure since it was opening weekend up there. I saw a couple of rises to my right so I put a cast up and across above the hole and to my suprise, "wham" I had my first Lackawaxen brown. It was a stocker but still nice enough for me.

I was on the Lackawaxen on Sunday for a short time and caught some nice fish. I didn't see any other flyguys, just the usual baitbombers. The fishing this year started out good and just keeps getting better, I think last years high water kept off the take home gang and this years low water has been great for the bugs and I've seen more healthy holdover fish than ever.

Hey Blue, yea your right, there were a lot of bait chuckers that day. I did see a few fly guys here and there. I'll be going back. Theres a whole lot of water there and it all looks like good water. Do you have a favorite section?

How is the stretch between Honesdale and Hawley? Seems like a lot of flat, shallow water to me.

Hey Djs, Im not sure of the specifics of the upper parts of the Lack. I've been told that it is much smaller. There was a great article about the river in the latest issue of Northeast Fly fishing. If you can get your hands on a copy I would give it a read.
