Fished the Lackawanna within the special regulations area from 8:00 am to 12:00 or so. When I arrived at the stream, it just had that fishy kind of look. Very low and bit a off color but not by much.
I stayed back and observed one pool for awhile and then started to see rises and caddis. I quick caught a small brown on an emerger and after getting some good drifts on a dry, then another pattern, but getting no hits, I put on a LaFontaine sparkle pupae, green, size 20, a brassie, and a split shot and wham, caught a 10 incher on the brassie. In a few more casts hooked up with a bruising brown about 17 inches, then another 14 incher or so, both on the LaFontaine underneath.
I slowly moved upstream a hooked another bruiser of a fish, maybe 16 or so on a black stone fly in the soft water alongside a deep riffle. Soon after, at another riffle upstream, with no action on a black stonefly, went to a golden with a big bead, and first cast with that one, another behemoth hit it and flew way out of the water, then dove into his hideout and broke me right off on an overhanging branch. I laughed and laughed. It was a very good morning on what appears to be a very healthy stream.
All caddis, a few rusty spinners, a few craneflies observed.
