Took a studnet who is extremely interested in fly fishing to the local stream Friday after school. To date, he had only caught 1 trout on a fly. He doesn't have waders, but I found a large cinder-block and placed it about 3 feet out into the water. He was able to jump to it and stick the landing. From this block, he managed 3 fish on dries. We worked on his casting a little, but he kept reverting back to the way he was taught, traditional cast; which lead to a couple hook-ups with the trees.
He missed a couple more, some on dries, some on nymphs, but I think he is hooked for sure. When I dropped him off, he ran inside and I could hear him yelling, "Is anyone around," as if to tell his story.
Saturday I went by myself.
Water levels were still low, but temp was excellent.
Caught mostly fingerling bows, most from last year. I managed a few small browns.
(I think the bows from pervious years are now large enough to harvest)
Bows took 14 PT, and browns took Pt and cream midge larva.
Hatching: Cream midges, small dark caddis, and the occasional mayfly - slate drake???
