Was driving by and fished briefly at Kinzua Creek yesterday evening from 7 till 7:45 PM. I was in the DHALO/Keystone Select stretch. Water level didn't look bad from the Rte 219 bridge but it was up considerably from previous trips, just under 200 CFS. Tricky wading. Water temp 52, air temp 63. Didn't see any fishermen from the road, but walked in to find a truck by the stream, so just fished in one favorite run. Water was fairly clear, used a black woolly bugger and hooked a extremely fat 14 inch brown on second cast. So fat I wasn't sure it was a trout bringing it in. Sorry no picture. Sides were fairly light in color with just a few spots, but had an unusual serpiginous black circle pattern, which I think I read on a different post was distinctive to one hatchery in particular. It fought OK but considering the current speed and the heft of the fish, I wasn't impressed. Maybe due to cold water. Had another solid hit, then nothing, so I left. Only saw a couple brownish spinners flitting around, no duns and no fish showing.
Driving north from State College earlier in the day drove through a horrific thunderstorm around Snowshoe, and saw the aftermath of a wicked windstorm with downed trees and power lines mostly from Sinnemahoning through the town of Driftwood about to Sterling Run along Driftwood Branch. Power was out in Emporium and at a friend's camp in Rich Valley. The Sinnemahoning, First Fork and Driftwood were really high.
