My son and I fished Kettle Creek and various tributaries this weekend. We started off in the regs section below Old Bul. Water was a little low a far cry from 2weeks ago. Anyway we spent about 2hours their. Dad got skunked my son managed 5 including a nice 17" rainbow on a small beadhead indi rig. Saw Yellow stones, Iso shucks on the rocks and BWO's. I spoke with a nice gentleman who had fished the area for a long time. He did well that morning fishing a Bi-color variant dry fly/softhackle.
After lunch it was hot so we decided to move farther upstream so that we could wet wade. After spooking a few fish with the indicator switched to size 14 Usual's. The fish were most definately looking up. We did very well. All fish caught were brookies. Most were small but their were a few 10+ caught including the last fish of the day was a solid 13"male with a hook jaw. He was in a small deep pocket behind a bush. I was startled in the ferocity at which he smashed that fly. He felt and fought like a much larger fish. We played a game. You take turns leap frogging. The first guy gets to choose his water but he only gets 3 casts and then his turn is over. an so on an so forth. Its a fun an fair way to fish a smaller stream.
