Kettle Creek Potter County 5/28/17

Fished Kettle Creek Saturday and Sunday.
The fishing in the FFO section was good in the evening. Caddis, Sulfurs and coffin flies were in the air and the fish were rising very aggressively. Sunday I took a hike in the Class A brookie water. I caught a fair number of brookies but not a lot. Two were pretty good size. I also caught several hatchery browns and a wild brown about 10 "

Fished briefly in the FFO stretch of Kettle today (june 1) early afternoon. The streamflow was above fishable at > 400 cfs. Water temp 56. Did see a number of flies hatching including sulfurs and GDs. Saw a couple rises in slower bumpy water but not on the rare stretches of flat water. Risers weren't interested in my sulfurs but caught a 11 inch bow with a #14 lead wing coachman on the lift.

Also fished at noon for an hour at Young woman's creek. Actually saw more of the same bugs there but still no risers. Water was high but more fishable at 130 cfs. I'd expect both streams to be decent this weekend.

When Kettle or most streams for that matter are on the high side I rarely see risers even if there is a good hatch. That's a nymph/streamer time. You can maybe go to the longer slow moving holes and get a few on top.

I agree with bigjohn, for the nc pa freestone the conditions you noted scream for you to throw streamers and nymphs. Many wild brown trout streams come to life after a good rain storm. You just have to be on the stream at the right time and get your streamers in the right drifts and you will catch a lot of fish.
