Kettle Creek, Potter/Clinton Cos. 5/16-20/2013

Just got back from 4days fishing Kettle Creek.
Fished from Cross Fork to Ole Bull St PK.
Even fished Little Kettle.

Weather: sunny to party sunny highs in the mid 70s
Water: Strong flow SLIGHTLY off color Little high 52 to 56 F

Flies/Hatches Caddis, March Browns but not in big numbers
no BWO's March Browns and BWO's should get heavy soon.

Hook ups were few and far between/many fishermen on this stream up and down.

How did Little Kettle fish?

Were the stockies any bigger in the Potter section then the Clinton section? Clinton has very very small stockies averaging 8 inches probably.

I've noticed the small size of the stockies on other streams in that part of the state.

The stocked trout on the east fork were pretty small as well.

How much drilling activity did you see up there, and on the Susquehannock State Forest specifically if you did.

Really there is not that much. More in Tioga County. A lot of the gas companies have pulled out.

Do you hunt the Susqehannock State Forest at all? Lotta land and streams. I'm guessing that it gets hunted pretty hard out there because most kids are hunting by age 9, lol. Do they open the gates on the dirt roads for archery and rifle deer much, or keep them pretty locked up? Any info would be cool.

We hunt mostly around Sproul State Forest and Susquehannock State Forest. We have bears but other then that its kinda sparse. Only time you really see people hunting is bear season and spring gobbler. Our deer hunting is hurting and they just split up 2G which is what we hunt as an attempt to fix the deer population problem. Last year they sold 30,000 license. This year after they split it in half they are selling 56,000 license between the 2 secitons. It was just a way for the game commission to sneek in more license sales. We were hoping they would reduce the license even more. We hunt inside the fenses sometimes. Deer are often inside the fenses. The deer know places where they can get in and out. Also the elk are pretty cool to see up there too. There are some real moster bulls!

Ah, thanks for the info, I think the Susquehannock is the biggest State Forest, over 210k acres maybe? Yeah, I've heard quite a few deer wheeze inside fences before.I like locked gates, lol. Nothing worse than scouting a trophy animal, and then seeing an open gate the first day of the season towards your target.
