Kettle Creek, Clinton Co, 5-12-2025 to 5-15-2025

I was up there "short man week" 05/05-05/08. It was blown out after Mon eve. storms. Checked USGS, only one other day higher within the last year. Barely fishable Wed and Thurs. Only managed a handful on streamers.

These were on kettle creek one evening when I was up there last weekend.
And some of the fish were focused on them
Luckily, I had a few in my box
I believe they're called Chimarra

not chimmara, that would be the little black caddis. one in picture is a dark spotted caddis

I just noticed that I made an error by including the 3 Dark Caddis photos in Post #9 above. That insect was caught on the First Fork. It was correctly posted in the Firsf Fork thread from the beginning. It still makes for good conversation about the bug.

Not sure I understand your drift
I thought Chimarra were also called the little black caddis
And I'm pretty sure that's what I saw on Kettle creek.
I didn't get a picture of them.
But they were quite small and coal black, with no mottling

I find identifying the exact fly to be very difficult. I use

2) Fishbugs by Thomas Ames Jr
3) Pocket Guide to Pennsylvania Hatches by Charles Meck and Paul Weamer
4) The Caddisfly Handbook (Orvis) by **** Pobst and Carl Richards
5) Hatch Guide For New England Streams by Thomas Ames Jr

As I look through the photos, it is so strange that the insects take on such different colors based on the stream. It really is difficult to get it right.

Colors dont always show true over the internet too
Have bought countless things over the years that looked a lot different than what they looked like on the computer

top caddis is a dark spotted caddis, ones in lower pics are alder flies
