I made my way up to the Juniata at Amity Hall on Sat. I had debated weather to bring the canoe or not, but opted for the small car and wading. I wanted to fish the old bridge piling above Rt 15 and down stream. In the past I have waded all the way across the river and then down the far shore, but there was a little more water than I had expected. I could see bottom untill I was waist deep, when the water was up to my neck, being alone, I thougth "forget this s**t" and went back to shore.
I then drove up to Montgomery Ferry landing. I have had good mid day fishing here in the past. Nothing. Then when up to the rock garden at Liverpool. Below the first rock I came to hooked an 18 incher on an olive rabbit strip. Fished the rest of the afternoon with total of six bass. Sure worked hard for them. One 7 incher on a popper. the rest on the rabbit strip.
Went back down to Amity Hall from 8 till 9. Water was like glass. A few (very few) white flies came off and some yellow/brown size 32 flies. The water was so calm you could see hatch forms when the bugs came off. In that hour I never saw one fish rise. Catch rate was zero. Headed for home, stopped at Brusters for ince cream and was home by 11:30. Long day and a lot for effort for so few bass.
