Juniata River, Perry County, 8/30/2015

Looks like the bass fishing on the Juniata is really coming back. I fished it today from 10AM till about 1PM. Not the best time to be out, but I go when I get the chance. I had the best day numbers wise that I have had on the Juniata in at least 10 years. Only had one larger (+15") bass on and lost on a jump, but I caught many in the 10"-13" range and at least 10 5"-7". Caught some on top with a foam hopper and caught most on a gold colored streamer or a clouser crayfish in burnt orange color. Glad to see my home river turning the corner.

Great to see so many smaller SMBs in the younger year classes.
I was out canoeing the lower J on Saturday with some family members and was pleased to see large numbers of YOY and 2 year old bass.

I was out a few weeks earlier and caught lots of smaller fish too. Had a great time. I think I fished around mifflintown.

Forgot to mention, I was fishing near the Millerstown bridge. There is very easy access if anyone wants to try fishing the area.

Water was clear where I was but some rocks had a filamentous algae on them in some areas. Generally, I thought the river looked good.

I had some problems with floating grass. The algae was manageable.

The lower Juniata is wadeable pretty much its entire length and access spots are numerous. Wading conditions are best when the water level is under 4' at the Newport gage.
