Spent some time out in the canoe this nice afternoon on the Juniata River chasing late seasons smallies. Water level is still a bit on the high side (4.15 at the Newport gage) and a fairly cloudy, 55 degrees F. I've not done well on the J this year and today was pretty slow. I did get a pair of hard fighting 15 inchers on a chartreuse over white Clouser fished low and very slow. Didn't see any walleyes although this is a good time of year to get them on slow fished streamers. Lotsa leaves - without weedless flies it would have been almost impossible to fish. I suspect, with spin tackle, the fishing might have been a bit more productive. Save for one other boat, had an entire mile long pool all to myself. Trees are at their color peak - beautiful day.
