Spent the late afternoon on the middle Juniata in Juniata County. The river looks great - still quite low, very clear, and 71 degrees F. For a wading fisherman, the conditions are still good. While I didn't see as many fish as my last trip, it was late day and the sun was low. I spent most of the time kayaking with my dog - Benny, The Incredible Fly Fishing Weiner Dog. We splashed around in some riffles and did some seine netting: still lots of crayfish and some madtoms and darters. What really impressed me was the number and size of the hellgrammites - most were 3 inches or more and very common. The bass in this river certainly have lots of forage. Once the temps drop a few more degrees, probably in the next couple weeks, this river should really turn on.
