Fished from 8:10 pm-9:05 pm. Water temp was about 65 deg. As is typical for this time of the year it was easy to find rising fish late in the day on the Jordan, plus it was a tee shirt evening and everyone was leaving as I was arriving. Unfortunately, I expected sulphurs, but could not determine what the fish were rising to. I first tried an Adams, sz 14, with no interest from any fish so after 10 min I switched to a sz 16 light cahill. This did not slay them, but produced two stocked browns and a stocked RT that got off close to me in about a half hr of actual fishing time. In the darkness it was pure guesswork as to whether the trout had risen to a natural near my fly or to the fly itself, which was a lot of fun. An occasional rise was still occurring downstream, but that was in tree limb territory in darkness, so I thought it wise to quit while I was ahead. A new red headlamp came in handy when trying to unhook the fish and apply floatant.

I had the same experience with the sulphurs on a different stream. I think I had 7 variations of flies between catskill, comparadun, parachute, emerger, etc. and had few takes . I could see the sulphur duns but the fish were either extremely picky or keyed on something else entirely.

I have been going ultra small.Many times fish are hitting midges, micro caddis or BWO’s. Also emergers have been working well like MH snowshoe emergers or the breadline sulfur. Didn’t fish the Jordan this year, glad there are still fish around. I have been finding slim pickings here in south central PA. Our streams have been pounded pretty hard.

One of my best brownies came on a sulfur dry in the dark on the Tully, just like you described Mike....trying to anticipate where my fly was in relation to the rise I could hear.
I had that picture as "desktop" on my phone for several years before the phone took a dump (literally) and pictures were not recovered.
