Is there anyplace that isnt too frozen to fish in Central Pennsylvania?

Somewhere more than a dusting and less than an inch here on the south side of the mountain. It all blew away though.

Wind was painfully cold.

If it was 60° outside, right now, I might not even consider fishing with as hard as the wind is blowing.

I just went out and got the mail. Then I came in and put on a coat and boots and replaced a doorbell cam. (two screws out, two screws in)
I have no plans to venture out there again for quite some time 🥶
Dear tom,

I just took the dog out and spent 15 minutes standing on the back deck while he ran around on a long lead barking at squirrels and taking a couple of whizzes. Not 2 minutes later he came in and pawed me to take him out again, so I did.

Once again, 10 minutes and still no deuce was dropped. He can go in the living room for all I care, I have my hand wrapped around a can of beer trying to warm it up!

Regards,

Tim Murphy 🙂

My son's car got stuck in the driveway from the wind drifts so I had to plow it around noon. My tractor is does not have a cab. If he wasn't such a gasoline *** I wouldn't have had to leave the house.

My pop used to say that when I was young. You pretty much need to be up there in age to know what it means. Unfortunatley, I do.
Dear wildtrout2,

Being old enough to know what it means certainly beats the alternative of being dead, doesn't it? 😉

It's also a kind of an urban term. You won't likely hear it in Ridgeway PA, but you will hear on Ridge Avenue in Philly.

People not as old as us two old farts might remember "Christmastime in Hollis Queens."

Regards,

Tim Murphy 🙂

Started the day watching Olympic male skiers hurling themselves down a mountain at up to 90 mph and going airborne for 150 ft forward before landing and continuing onward. Anytime someone is going that fast down a mountain on skis the wife and I are going to watch.

We went for. 3.5 mi walk along the Jordan and spotted canvasback ducks and a bald eagle hanging out at and near, respectively, a spring fed pond, which was ice-free. Haven’t seen canvasbacks for about 50 yrs.

The only thing that crossed my mind about fishing was that the Jordan was completely locked up with thick ice, even in the 6 ft spill of a low head dam, including its falls, and its scheduled for 2/17 stocking (sure!!😂).

Water below a large town's water treatment plant.
Ive been observing the creek behind my work all winter and it’s frozen solid above the treatment plant and free flowing at least a half mile below the plant. Havnt sighted any trout in a while though.

Your observation is right on and while the STP discharge is the dominant element in what you are seeing, there is also a slightly contributing 52 deg F spring entering the creek on the immediate downstream western side of the Rt 562 ( St Lawrence Ave) bridge crossing . It’s a few hundred yds below the STP discharge and in a fortunate position to help maintain the effect.

You’ve mentioned this spring before, I knew that much just forgot the location. Not a touch of ice all winter behind our shop. Also no sign of any fish. There’s an absolute nightmare of twisted trees and boulders from the flood just below that spring that would make a nice trout hideout. I’d rather not though.
