I would love to get out and do some nymphing, but every stream that I look at is frozen over..
Is there anyplace that isnt too frozen to fish in Central Pennsylvania?

Unclench your butt and tie em up. It's not easy but this winter hasn't given you much other opportunity. That or try ice fishing. It's thick right now.

My boss lives in Wisconsin. the only place I can imagine is uglier than here right now. He went to an Ice fishing tournament last weekend (no, I don't know why anyone would do this) and tells me the ice was 30 inches thick on that lake.

I think the latest episode of Troutbitten is about how to use the mono rig to ice fish. You just have to stand very far back and trout set not strip set.
I haven't laid eyes on them, but any of the highly limestone-influenced streams should be fine for fishing. Go to a straight up limestoner. You'll find open water.

Spring creek should have a decent amount of fishable water. Fish the limestoners closest to the springs.

I used to go ice fishing with my neighbors when we lived in the Minneapolis suburbs. One of the guys grew up in International Falls, MN. He said that they usually needed an extension on the ice auger when fishing up there because the ice is so thick. When we went out around the Twin Cities, the ice was usually 24” or more. When you need to get outside, you need to get outside.

If you aren't tuck casting into a 6" hole from 30' are you really even fishing?
If your doing that, I’d say you are fishing at a high level 😎.

I know some people don't and fishing in below freezing weather, but I won't fish below freezing, or even below 40. I'd like to fish too, but if we really care about the fish we'll leave them alone below freezing. I can find plenty else to , read plan , tie flies, anything but stress fish.
The temperature is 12F right now. You can find streams that are not iced over. But your guides will ice up constantly. Just wait until it gets warmer to go fishing.
The choices are NOT just: 1. Fish or 2. Stay indoors and suffer from cabin fever.
You can just bundle up and go for a walk outdoors. Most people have a park or other public land nearby.

If it was 60° outside, right now, I might not even consider fishing with as hard as the wind is blowing.
I just went out and got the mail. Then I came in and put on a coat and boots and replaced a doorbell cam. (two screws out, two screws in)
I have no plans to venture out there again for quite some time 🥶

Dear Swattie,
I went to the mini-market to buy beer earlier today. We got 1/2 inch of snow but there were spots on Rte. 443 that had a solid 3 inches of snow on them.
The hawk is out! IYKYK!
