Hello everyone! My name is Devin McBride I am a 21 year old student at West Chester University and my favorite thing to do in the world is fish for wild trout. I have been fishing for a while but I only truly got into trout fishing a little less than a year ago. I have always done spin fishing but I bought my first fly rod a little bit ago because my focus of fishing shifted solely to wild trout. I live in Chester Springs and mainly fish all of the creeks in the Chester County area unless I have time off of school and work to travel somewhere further. I had taken the fly rod out a couple of times so far this spring but only for a few casts before I realize how terrible of a beginner I am and then I always go back to my spin setup because it’s what I felt confident with and because I just started trout fishing, catching the trout was my main priority and the most exciting which is why I kept shying away from sticking with the fly rod. Earlier today I decided to go fishing and only bring my fly rod with me because i’ve decided I need to force myself to learn and it’s the only way. I had the best time ever with my fly rod. On the first good hole I caught my first ever wild brown on the fly rod with a dry fly as well and it was extremely exciting. It wasn’t a big guy but he was beautiful and it was absolutely amazing. An hour later I then caught the fish of my dreams, a big gorgeous colored up male brook trout, he was about 12” I would say. I think that brookie wanted to get me hooked on fly fishing and get me even more addicted to fishing. I live in the chester county area and try to go fishing every single day, if anybody here is from the area and enjoys teaching others the magic of fly fishing please reach out to me because I am super eager to learn and want to keep improving because I have a long way to go!
