Headed to Hopewell lake early yesterday morning, I hit the water at 5am with no sunlight and heavy fog rising off the lake. I met a friend there who tells me that Northerns lurk the waters and confirms this with a picture from last week. We headed to our location where we started off throwing a home made monster of a fly (Based on the "Wooly Bully" from Hatches Magazine). I landed 2 bass both dinks and 1 northern at 16", my buddy landed 3 northerns all over 16" with the biggest at 20". As the sun came up and the air temp rose I headed up to Scott's Run to see if I could catch a few trout.

Scott's Run is chock full of quality trout that are more than willing to take most offerings. I was throwing a size 14 olive and white humpy and managed to land only 3 trout but lost many more. After 1.5hrs the wind finally chased me off of the dam at Scott's Run and I decided to search for a stream that I saw on satellite pics. After 1 hour of driving I finally found it and man was it worth it. I walked this little stream for 3+ hours and landed many native brookies. I caught all brookies on a number 12 black bead head wooly bugger.

The air temp throughout the day went from 48 up to 59 and the water temp in Hopewell was still pretty warm and the fish, mainly the bass, were still stalking the weedy shallows. Scott's Run was significantly cooler than Hopewell and the stream was a spring fed stream and a lot cooler than I was prepared for.

all fish were released in a timely and gentle manner

When I find my data cable for my cell phone I will post pics of the stream and the brookies.

Thanks for reading

anytime and if you ever need more info please ask, I have fished both lakes A LOT!!! and know them very well.

I used to live in Birdsboro and that park was my stomping grounds for 3 years!

here are pics as advertised, some of the pics I took turned out like crap (cell phone) an are not included.

Here are some of the lake when I finally got to my spot and the other is of the trout I caught while exploring the new stream.

nice brookie man!.....was that from ur secret stream in the stream locations? if so very nice job and enjoy it! on thing u can do which i often do on my "secret" streams is break my flyrod down when getting close to the road......that way passing cars dont see my rod. dont wear waders there ...so they dont see them.....and put your fishing lisence away! 😛

A beautiful brook trout - congratulations. Its always a thrill discovering a "new" wild trout stream. In the past I have fished a wild brookie stream near French Creek SP, but haven't been there in ten years. It was difficult to access (permission needed), but loaded with little brook trout. I recall fishing it in November and watching the fish cut spawning redds.

That brookie is from my "secret" spot and I did break my rod down, but I was wearing waders because I was stupid and didn't think about that LOL

Thanks

Bob
