Honey Creek, Mifflin Co. 2/6/11

Decided to get out for a few hours on honey creek today. Started walking to the spot and saw a lot of midge activity and alot on the snow along the bank. Started out with some nymphing to no avail, but i think i was "matching the hatch" pretty well while catching a caddis larvae with my caddis larvae

Finally started to see some risers for all the midge activity going on and decided it was time to try some dry action and managed one and missed quite a few as well. Also saw a few little black stones crawling around on the bank as well.

Stream was pretty low and very clear. Air temp was around 34.

I was under the impression you couldn't fish Honey creek on Sundays? or were you out there early this morning..

As far as I know it's not closed on Sunday's.

Doesn't much of Honey creek run through Amish farm country? I was under the understanding they don't fish on Sundays..

Wow! How often do you catch a specimen of the same bug you're imitating? Very cool.

Glad to hear you had some success and some fish to cast to. I still consider Honey as one of the tougher streams I've ever fished in PA.

The one section up by the barn use to be posted on Sundays, the rest of it is open unless something has changed.

j_man is correct, the family with dairy farm along the stream does not allow sunday fishing, some other properties are posted as well, however, much of the stream remains open

Is this an ATW stream or class A? Just curious how those heva hovas get to regulated open waters.

Class A and the freestone part is DHALO (but not worth fishing in my oppinion).

On properties owned by "plain" people, i.e. Amish and conservative Mennonites, it is a good idea to not fish on Sundays, whether you see any signs to that effect or not. That could help maintain fishing access.

Wasn't aware that it was closed on sundays if there's any truth to that? And where i was fishing was certainly not posted, and the house and farm i was fishing behind, someone came out and shoved a busch light box into their burning barrel so i highly doubt they were amish or mennonites
