Fished Hickory Run in Hickory Run State Park from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM. It was a little chilly out today with starting air temperatures at 28 degrees F and rising to 37 degrees F by the time I knocked off. There was certainly plenty of sun though which was nice. I hiked down to the confluence of Hickory Run and the Lehigh and fished back up to where it is crossed by PA-534.
Water was 40 degrees F with plenty of snow melting and flowing into the stream. Water was very clear, as I was able to see clearly straight down to the bottom of the nice holes.
There was neither any visible bug activity, nor any rising fish, although I did spook a few as I moved up the stream.
I caught 4 fish and lost one with the largest fish being probably about 8 or 9 inches, with the others being about 5-6 inches. Fish were caught on a size 16 rainbow warrior and on a size 16 purple psycho prince. They wanted nothing to do with more natural imitations today, as evidenced by having to swap flies out a bunch before they were willing to bite! Most fish were in calmer medium depth runs in the sun with some disturbed water on top for cover, as well as 1 holed up in a deeper pool.
There were no other anglers out on the stream, and it was a gorgeous day to be out. I was very happy to see that there wasn't tons of snow left, but the snow that they had gotten certainly seemed to be good for the park's stream levels.
