Fished over my first hatch of the season this weekend over at Hay creek. I started in the lower sections and caught nothing but a plastic bag and a coke bottle..... pigs everywhere these days. After I got sick of cleaning the streambanks, I went to the upper sections. Here I found a large section containing a few holdover and wild brown trout, all with beautiful yellow fins, feeding on some size 14 tan caddis.

Given that the water was high, cold, and off color, I didn't have any dry flies handy... ugh. Regardless, I stripped a size 14 hare's ear soft hackle through the film for some ridiculous strikes. It felt good to get em on top again.

While I had fun with the "sardines" (lots of 6 and 7 inchers, but still some nice holdovers too) my dad caught about good amount of fat stocker rainbows on bait... to each his own.

Good weekend to get out.
