Fished the GP today for a few hours around the lower falls access. The flows are around 50 cfs and water was about 54 degrees. Landed around 15 fish, got two nice browns that might have been ten inches, the rest were small. However the fish of the day was my first gunpowder brook trout ever. I have spent thousands of hours on the gp over the last 25 years and never caught a brookie. In fact last year I caught a tiger trout but no brookies, go figure. There were some olives and midges coming off sporadically with some inconsistent rises. All the fish I caught were nymphing and chucking streamers at dusk.

Very nice, I live about 30 minutes from the Gunpowder so I try to fish it as much as I can. Had some luck with streamers and nymphs as well. Thanks for the stream report.

That is an outstanding Gunpowder brookie!

I have been driving from SE-Pa for the past 2 years to try and catch the elusive Gunpowder brookie and have yet to succeed ( Yet!! ).

I actually also caught a wild tiger in the Gunpowder and have never caught a brookie in the Gunpowder.

I have spent a lot of time crawling around the tribs and have definitely spooked a few.

Congrats on catching yours!!!

Outstanding and congrats!

I get down there about once a month. Never seen a Brookie but have always heard rumors of them hanging around the tribs.

Cheers!

There are elusive rainbows in the Gunpowder too- a very small reproducing population, but they are there.

They stock thousands of kamloop fingerling rainbows every year around falls road, there are a lot of them now.
