Water temp -- 62
Air temp -- low 80's
Flow -- ~160 cfs

I don't often post reports on here, but since there was some concern that sustained high water temps had affected the fish population of the stream, I wanted to allay those concerns.

I fished for about 3 hours this morning, and hooked over 20 fish. Unfortunately, I didn't land even half of them. This is partly because I've become rusty over the last two months, and partly because I was hooking leaves on almost every cast for a while. leaving cork screws in my, which is never good for hooking purposes. In one section where I usually catch a lot of fish, there were more than I expect to see in October, and I was hooking at least one on every single cast. (Including some where I hooked a fish on the other fly.) I ended up changing the last two sections of tippet five times.

I'm sure I didn't go more than 5 minutes between takes at any point during the entire time.

The fish that I did land ranged from 6 to 10 inches; one of those that I lost, but had to my feet was probably over 14. This indicates to me that even the smaller fish survived just fine.

I fished a team of a wet ant and hare's ear flymph the entire time. Both flies took fish.

I stopped at Great Feather's on the way home. Mike showed me some pictures of a few fish taken on large streamers last week when the flow was over 300 cfs. One was a 21 incher and the other 16. Neither looked like they had missed many meals. So, the big fish survived as well.

Now, if only the rain we're expecting over the next few days doesn't cause the dam to spill over again, the fishery seems to be in fine shape.

Good to hear, thanks for the post. Kept trying to make my way up to fish the higher flows once the temp dropped but life got in the way.

I have a pic on my phone of an even bigger Gunpowder brown that was caught a week or so ago. Pushing 23-24” range - was sent to me from a friend. Big male, biggest I’ve seen from there on the ole internet.

Sounds great for the river. I fish it often , Love the river.
