I took the trip down to Baltimore County today, to fish the Gunpowder with a good friend. We started at 0900 am and fished til 0300 pm. The weather was cloudy and in the upper 40s. The water temps were in the mid to high 40s, as well. The stream was clear and flowing at a moderately low rate. The hatches were sparse, I did not see any BWOs, which I was expecting given the conditions. I did see grey midges and very sparse black stoneflies. We nymphed for the better part of the day, in the nice looking runs below Bunker Hill Road. I picked up about ten beautiful little Gunpowder gems on pheasant tail nymphs and tiny red midge pupa. My buddy took two, which was great considering it was his first time dealing with subtle takes of Gunpowder browns, and subtle they were, barely making the indicator hesitate for a split second.

On the walk out, I threw some large articulated streamers, which got a lot more interest than I expected, including a large brown that went for a kill shot and flat out missed. In the glassy pool below Rt. 45, I noticed a nice pod of midge sippers, and I could not pass up an attempt at some dry fly action. I picked one 8 incher off the top with a size 20 BWO comparadun. It sure felt good getting one to come up this time of year. In all, it was a great day of fishing in some beautiful areas. Now time to clean the gear up

Sounds like a great way to ease into Christmas. Those fish come with their own colorful
wrappings.

Tight lines and Happy Holidays!!
