Had a small window of time to stop by the stream on the way home from a client. Conditions were perfect - clouds starting to roll in, and was able to hit the shaded bank with a wooly bugger. I fished the put and take stocked section that also supports wilds. Caught a very healthy, clean stocker about 13 inches, which put up a nice fight. Shortly thereafter, caught a wild brown about 9 inches. Both caught on the olive wooly bugger. Fished for about 45 minutes.

There were a few larger palominos chasing the bugger constantly, but of the three, none would hit it. I don't usually target stocked fish, but I have to admit, it was a lot of fun observing their behavior.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm fishing the G.P. Thursday, this week. Weather will be great.

The State of Maryland had some major hatchery issues this year so they stocked a good number of very robust medium to large rainbows from the Freshwater Institute this year. They are a real hoot to catch and release and they hold better than the standard stocked trout. The larger Palominos seem to be particularly picky, but they are willing to take some weighted nymph and crayfish imitations presented on the bottom.
