Hello fellow anglers,

I’ve been scouring the threads for about 6 months now and thought it was time I’d introduce myself and get involved. I just moved back to Williamsport from Rockaway Beach, NY. I’ve been fly fishing most of my life, but have taken a renewed and deeper interest in it over the past year or two, and am just starting to tie flies again after about 25 years off (I’m 40 now).

I grew up here, but I’ve been away for about 15 years, and I’m looking for folks in the area to connect and fish with. I particularly enjoy Loyalsock Creek and its tributaries, and West Branch smallies are a hoot, too, but I’m hoping to explore more. Hope to meet some of you and do some fishing!

Welcome back to Pee-ay! Did you do any striper fishing on LonG Island? My daughter just got married to a guy who was from Babylon, which I know is a good deal east of Rockaway. She lives in Hoboken and will probably remain in North Jersey so we have been thinking at some point maybe getting a beach place in North Jersey or on the Island? What are the beaches like and how is the fishing?

Thanks! I got really into striper fishing (fly and surfcasting gear, you really need both) this past Fall. The Fall run was late and very spotty unless you were out East in Montauk, or had a boat to chase them offshore. Both North Jersey and Long Island beaches are beautiful, and both have decent fisheries on the beach and on the bay side. For stripers, it's mostly about being in the right place at the right time. There are some holdovers (schoolies) in the bays and estuaries, though, that hold more consistently and are fun on the fly.

Welcome, you are in a great area for fishing. Some of the best wild trout, stocked trout, river smallmouth and a number of lakes within an hour drive. You will never fish it all!
