Frontplaters v Bennies v Shoobies

Surf casters are some of the most fanatical around they live it and love it . Honestly I side with the locals , it's just not right to tell someone they can't fish on a public beach in their own back yard. Up north you could stop at the guard shack and get a night pass with your driver license and registration for the season and it was simple . That's all done to and it got really complicated now, and I got frustrated and said forget it. My advice would be keep your head lights off and head lamp off , I have yet to meet anyone checking tags at 2 am 😉 down south .

I'm with the locals too and the same goes for PA State Parks like Beltzville that get so overcrowded in the summer because of out of state visitors they have to close the parks.

If I was in charge of access when it came to local, county and state property; permits and admission would be given priority in the same order

If there were any openings left after that, do it by lottery for those that are left at a higher price.

As the man said, "residents who pay taxes that cover park improvements should have first priority."

It's only fair...
 
That hasn't been an issue on any of the streams I fish, ever. I can't recall a single time I've seen an out of state plate on a vehicle where I fish. May it stay that way!
 
When I fished IBSP I find it crowded with the people who sand spike a rod or two and then use it as a private beach. Perhaps they should enforce the rules and take the permits from the 40% of frauds who act like they are fishing so they can have a semi private beach experience. Those people are largely in staters. Then there’s another 30% of surf anglers who drive their trucks up and down the beach, back and forth all day long looking for blitzing fish or active birds. Is this fishing They are doing more driving than fishing. The locals got some nerve if you ask me. The pissed off NJ anglers need to police themselves and vote out the politicians who created this new system.

That's because where you fish is usually 2-3 miles form the nearest road. 🙂
 
Hey, I just read the Bill in question. I live in NJ and don't like the Bill. Maybe the Army Corps (who we all fund) should stop funding beach replenishment in New Jersey.

Welcome to what surf fishing has become. Drive around and look for others catching fish. Many boats doing the same. Some boats even look for concentrations of surf anglers 🙃

My understanding is that permits in towns with beachfronts who allow buggy access do privilege local residents, so the practice up and down most of the coast is hyper-locally focused. The state park is different.

On the contrary, a lot of IBSP permit holders live nowhere near the beach. My fishing buddies with permits live in Princeton and even Camden County. Some bennies might live closer 😉

Just to go on the record, I don't support the measure. The pushback is natural, but.....

Idk - In my one experience there my buddy and I experienced a blitz for maybe 2 minutes before everyone and their brother came from every directions. Not my scene I guess. Who knows maybe I'll enter for a permit next go around, if you can't beat em join em.

I'll give it another whirl one of these days, maybe come springtime. I enjoy surf fishing further north up in Cape Cod and Maine, less 4x4 access 🙂

With anything fishing related with access or permit debates, it seems that there is not ever going to be a solution that makes everyone happy. Whether its limits, slot sizes, C&R, beach permits, and even tackle regulations, someone will always feel like they were shorted somehow.

Probably the same mishandling of fish for the 'gram too! I have regularly seen 40 lb female bass out of the water for several minutes while they're dragged up to the truck, put on the tailgate, taped, and given the full photo shoot.

More than once I had to yell, "They don't breathe air, you jadrools!"

Amen. As someone who's surf fished for at least 30 years through good times and bad, I am to the point where I take my teenage son for the mayhem a couple times and then I am done.

Not only did I love it at one time, but it was a great way to give spawning browns a break. I might need another November hobby, maybe push deer with 10 guys through the Pine Barrens to get away from the crowds 😉
 
Not for me anymore. I still go surf fishing for flounder and to just knock around but the Fall run is not worth the aggravation of the crowds and what goes on. I’m not sure why so many people need to take pictures of every fish they catch.
 
A bunch of years ago my son and I drove out to Montauk in the fall. Our guide gave us 2 instructions:
1. Don’t point (other boats will see it);
2. Don’t F it up!

Sound advice for any trip.

Just curious , as that is a bucket list trip for me , did you happen to use bill wetzle ?
Would you recommend the trip / guide ?
