Went out to Warwick Co. Park on Saturday morning for a few hours. Air temps around 40, water levels average but a little murky. Landed six rainbows averaging around 10", one of them was a golden. Pretty much anything floated along the bottom was producing. San juan, hares ear, p.t., orange weenie all took fish. I did see a few fish rising to midges in the slower sections.

Nope, it was a true alpine california golden. They hang out up near the grizzly bears and chinook runs in chester county.

Mute...back to your question. A golden Rainbow is the yellow fish they stock that many call palaminos, but they aren't, they are golden rainbows.

And BTW....it's "Got any pictures?" Thats what my buddy Bob would say to anybody telling a tall tale.

Nice fish. I got tied up and did not post my fishing report. I took the day off last Wednesday and fished Pickering and French Creek. Got 6 total for the day, all on Suckers and San Juans.

Maurice, thats what i thought i read somewhere a while ago. That they stopped stocking palominos and theyre actually golden rainbows now. Is there any way to tell the difference?

Yeah, if it's orange or yellow, it's a golden rainbow.

If it's a palomino, you should hop on your unicorn and ride it back home, because you're probably developing a fever.

If they don't stock em, they aren't gonna be there.

To your actual question, I'm not sure exactly what a palomino even is. I'm assuming they're similar to the golden rainbow, which is just a genetic mutation AFAIK.

So according to Edmo's link, the PFBC says Golden Rainbow is (roughly) a pure bred mutant while a Palamino is (roughly) a 50-50 hybrid of a Golden Rainbow and a Regular Rainbow.

From the size of the fish in the picture (not familiar with the stream) is it possible that this is a "natural" golden rainbow? I thought all golden's stocked by the commish were large.

No, definitely not. I've caught a few of them that size. Many of them are stocked by clubs, if not the commission. I have friends that do club stockings in the stream multiple times per year.

I also highly doubt that there is natural reproduction of rainbow trout in french creek.
