I am trying to locate the brand and model of a light I used for fly tying, back in the 90s. At the time, this light was marketed in fly tying circles (but not specifically a 'fly tying light'). It was all black except for the silver hood for the lamp. It had a weighted circular base about 5" in diameter, and the single arm for the light slid into the side of the base. This arm attached at a strong angle away from the base (can't remember if the angle at the base was fixed or flexible), and was between 12-18" long. Another ~4" arm section, with the lamp assembly, then attached to the other side of the main arm, and this section was bendable. The light included a relatively large AC adapter, and the lamp was a single halogen bulb. The silver hood was surrounded by a black plastic cage which was a good thing, as the bulb burned HOT. This light was small and elegant, and it was bright. My eyes have changed so not sure if I would still find it bright enough, but I've not found anything that replicated the combination of size, elegance and functionality. Does anyone remember this light and can please give me a start on locating this brand/model? My other option is either the Prolite or Peak lights, both similar in form factor. Thanks for any help.

No. It was a single arm, 12-18" in length, only adjustable through the top section. I have tried to find an image of something close. This one is as close as I could find but not as elegant. Mine had one arm, not two, and the arm slid into the side of the round base. The light was very portable as well and broke down into the various pieces (base, arm, small lamp section and adapter) in seconds.

That one is missing the important plastic cage, as that silver hood gets super hot if used with the original bulb. Replacement LEDs may exist but not sure how well it will fit, as LED bulbs tend to be larger and may be too large (i.e., if the diameter causes the larger bulb to fall below the hood shield, making it directly visible). Still, I remember this as a great tying light. When I get one, I will post a follow-up including whether or not I find an LED option.

I agree with @lars that there are much better lights for tying than with a hot Halogen light. (I really like the looks of that light you’re using, @lars.)
But then again, I also believe there may be better ways to store hemostats than clipping them onto the bottom edges of window curtains. (a suggestion for @lars)😃

Not the same light but I use two different McKenzie Bright Lights, one on my home vise and another for my road vise. Both attach to the stem, both have goose-necks (which I like because I can put the light EXACTLY where I want it), both are halogen and so far, I never replaced a bulb.
Do they get hot?
Probably, but I'm not in the habit of touching bulbs or lamp housings so to be perfectly honest, I never noticed...
As far as LED bulb replacement options, I know from experience it's a crap-shoot in regards to fit & lumens so I have no plans of spending the time looking for alternatives.

Mine has not shipped yet. As soon as I get it and put it through its paces, I will post a followup. Depending on how well the halogen bulb performs, I may look for a suitable LED replacement (with a better color balance and output, if I can find one that fits). Stay tuned...

Wow!! loving this light. true daylight 6000 deg K color temp, four different brightness's up to 3000 lux, really sleek,
unobtrusive with two gooseneck sections for putting the light where you want it. lamp has a built in movable
shade. I was able to get rid of two other lamps which previously took up real estate on my desk. Very happy!
