Fished the Narrows from about 630 pm to dark (after 9 pm.) No thermometer but it was cold. I parked upstream of that cool house that has the bridge over the stream to it and the red fence gate. I thought the water level looked pretty good, albeit somewhat high, and thought the night might turn out OK. A strong hatch of size 14 or even bigger black/dark brown caddis, long attennae, black egg sac, came on, but there was no surface activity, and it did not seem that the caddis were on the water. Maybe these caddis drop their eggs mid-air bomber style. Your hapless correspondent was armed with sulphurs, and some other stuff, but no size 12-14 bomber caddis.

A weak smattering but steady hatch of Drakes came off towards dark, to what appeared to be a collective shrug of all piscatorial specimens in the stream. Right at dark, when it was too dark to tie anything on, there was (finally) some surface activity, and a smorgasbord of bugs, but they did not want my sulphur emergers (there were sulphurs too), red quill spinners, or anything else. Sigh.
