Fishing Creek "The Narrows", Clinton Co. 5/28/14

Hi! Fished Fishing Creek on Thursday May 28, 2014, from about 3 pm to 730 pm. Did not take a water temp. Air was about 80 degrees, became cooler as afternoon closed down, water was markedly higher than normal, murky chalky green and moving at a very good clip. Nymphing was unproductive for me. There were enough size 16 or so sulphurs (yellow-tannish) that we decided to look for quieter water around 630 or so and when we found that we found a pool with some very sporadic rises to some equally sporadically rising fish. Managed to haul in a couple each with long pauses in between waiting for a fish to rise and betray both its interest and location. Did not stay past 730 as the hatch died off and I saw no spinners. Not a lot of fisherman but they were arriving as we are leaving so I am thinking there might have been some action right at dusk.

However it beat being at work.

I have noted these Dorothea spinner falls occur right at dusk on the streams I fish around Allentown. The mating activity in the air occurs in fairly good light, but the actual spent flies fall right at dark. That might be why you saw the fishermen arriving so late.
I like to use a dark brown nymph from about 7:30pm until dark. Some of my friends will fish drys in the dark, but as for me, count me out!
