Fishing Creek, Perry County, 06/06/09

Fished today from 9am til noon, caught over a dozen fish, and had a lot of firsts. Today was my first "slam", I caught a brookie, brown, and rainbow within the first hour. According to the State's website the stream is only stocked with rainbows and brook trout but I caught 3 brownies. Not sure if they got mixed in the stocking truck or what. Today was also the first time I've caught a fish without using my trusty blaze orange stick on strike indicators. The water was slightly stained with minimal insect activity and all fish were caught on woolly buggers. I managed to lose a total of 3 buggers but every color I switched to worked just as well (grizzly, peacock, and green). This stream is slowly strarting to become one of my favorite spots!

The sportsmans club also throw trout in there. That would probably explain the browns.

If you ask me I would say they look just as nice as the browns I catch on the Codorus and they are wild. Of course that might just be me optimistically eyeballin' the screen on my blackberry (my what's crackalackin'-berry).

First brown looks like a stockie to me, however I'd bet my rod that the 2nd one is wild, and I'm no expert. That would explain it if they only stocked Brookies and Bows. Very nice fish!

The sportsman's club downstream did stock for a kid's fishing event so that might explain things. I've got some bows that looked really healthy and were probably holdovers. This year is my first fishing the stream but I have yet to see another FFer our there. Plenty of bait chuckers but that's it. This probably gives me an advantage because the flies I tie aren't always the prettiest but they seem to work well enough on this stream. I have been catching more creek chubs and fall fish but not as many as I would have thought earlier in the season. I've also started exploring some of the tribs that supposedly support natural reproduction but haven't caught any yet.
