Fishing Creek, Columbia County, 7/6/09

First time on this creek. Fished the DHALO section of Fishing Creek from around 4-8pm. Found little water suitable to my limited skills until I worked upstream to a deep, narrow chute of water which finally produced some fish. Not sure if the creek is somehow managing to run a little low despite all the recent rains, but it seemed that way to me.

Landed 2 of the nicest looking rainbows I've seen in a while. One in the deep water, and one just above the spillover that leads into the deep water. Both on a zebra midge.

Had 6 trout hooked up, all on either the midge or a small hare's ear, and only landed those two. Not used to such a high portion of hookups getting off. Apparently Fishing Creek has some tough fish. 🙂

Saw just a handful of sporadic rises, all but 1 in the deep water "chute", and all presumably sipping midges off the water.

I'll definitely be heading back to this creek in the coming weeks as I'll be making a few more trips up to that area, and am interested in other stretches of the creek those of you familiar with it would recommend.

Did you see any "no trespassing" signs or other fishermen? Are there still signs up indicating it as a DHALO section? I'm assuming this is the same section of stream that is being debated on the General Forum thread regarding access

Fishidiot,

No other fishermen or "no trespassing" signs. Im_leary has indicated this is because I followed his directions to access the creek (via the Benton schoolgrounds) rather than the traditional access point to the DHALO section.

Thanks greenlander. The timing of your post struck me as an interesting coincidence with regards to the access issue and since you had made no reference to this issue I assumed that you were unaware of I'mLeary's earlier thread on the General Forum.

Well, it was sort of a coincidence, as I had planned the trip to Fishing Creek before reading his thread ... but once I read it I target the DHALO section (though in hindsight, I think I would have preferred to fish elsewhere on the creek). He was able to provide some direction on the creek and I was added some feedback on my experience to that now ever-growing thread. 🙂
