Fishing Creek, Clinton Co. 3/29/09

Fished from about 11:30 -- 4:30 in the narrows section (by the first large bridge and up near the top).

Ton of midge activity and decent BWO activity in the lower half of the narrows. Fish were rising in the tail-out of riffles.

Fished mostly the riffles with little success -- most fish were still in the large pools.

I was there yesterday too. I don't know it as well, so excuse me if I don't know the names of the pools. We had two cars, put one at each end of the stretch we fished. The starting point was just above the lower bridge (blue van), and we worked upstream a good ways, first through some pocket water and then some beautiful pools (second vehicle black pickup). We didn't do real good either. Good olive hatch, and most of them didn't make it airborn due to the drizzle so the set up was great. But minimal fish response, and those that did rise were occasional risers. We too only caught a handful of fish, but I did catch a very nice brown (roughly 15") on a stonefly nymph.

If fished FC quite a bit, but not so much lately. I can't recall ever having a "banner" day this early in the season. Did you guys take a water temp reading? I believe the fish are still lethargic because the cold water. They seem to wake up later on FC. If they weren’t taking the naturals floating over them, it’s not surprising they were not impressed with your flies. FC and most other streams will come to life after the first prolonged warm spell with higher overnight temps….can’t wait!

I saw you then.
I was one of the 2 younger guys walking and fishing just above you. I drive a blue 2-door blazer, and my buddy has a grey nissan. We left his car at are first parking spot and I drove to the rest.
We only saw 3 fish that constantly raised/rose? and one was at the top bridge just above the last cabin (where those 2 houses are right next to the stream).

The fish were really lethargic. No water temp. but probably in the low to mid 40's.

Yeah, I saw you, I had a green Richardson on with a camera on the front, and my buddy was just below me at the time.

You're gonna hate this. We started the day with a little success, there were brookies rising in that first pool and I caught 1. But after that we worked a lot of water hard with no success whatsoever. But right after we saw you, we moved into the deep slow pool you had just vacated (with the log in the middle), and had a flurry of action.

I hooked fish on my first 3 casts up in the head of that pool, but only landed the one, the bigger brown I mentioned. I lost what I think was a bigger one right after, and then had a more average one to my feet (long line release). There were 3 fish rising in that pool too, right against the far bank (road side). My buddy was armed with dries at the time, took his shot, and missed 2 of them on the first cast to each, the 3rd wouldn't take. We continued on and found some sporadic risers in the series of pools above that, my friend landed one and we had to leave for the day....

Afish, Yeah, I took a reading. 48 degrees at around 1 p.m.

We actually didn't fish that hole, we just admired it for a few minutes.
Neither one of us wanted to switch to our dry fly leaders. However, we both had feeling that with the drizzle that we would catch then if we switched to dries.

I was the one with the green downs box, btw.

Pretty far drive from Reading to bring 2 vehicles....

Yeah, the 3 I hooked there were on nymphs, I deep nymphed a tandem rig for much of the day. The bigger brown took the woven stone on the point. The ones I lost I don't know, it was either the stone or the Walt's Worm dropper. When we saw the risers I backed off and my buddy have at em, I didn't want to change leaders and he was already set up for it. When I resumed nymphing there were no more hits, and I eventually switched to the dry fly leader somewhere upstream from there.

I was in State College for the weekend, my wife is finishing her phd at PSU and I spent my Saturday with her. She was going to work on Sunday so I was free. The friend was a friend from the FFP board, he's from up around the Scranton area. He told me he was doing a day trip to BFC and invited me, I essentially made it a "detour" on my way home. He's posted on here once or twice too but isn't active on this board. He goes by "Fly Swatter", by the way.
