I have never seen the water so low as I saw on Penns this last trip. It was just too hard to fish. I did manage one trout in an hour, and then I just lost patience. Trying to drift nymphs in stagnant, low, crystal clear water just doesn't get me excited. I saw a couple of caddis, and the surface feeding activity was limited to pools with almost no flow. Come On rain!!!!!!
Fishing creek was just a tiny bit better in the narrows. Since that stream is heavily spring fed, it had enough water to fish, but it wasn't ideal by any means. I was shocked at the amount of caddis that I saw on Monday. The air was thick with them. I can only imagine how good it could have been if the water was flowing at normal volume. We did catch enough to keep our interests up, about 2 an hour, which i thought was pretty good depending on the conditions. Most of the fish we caught were on caddis emergers and nymphs. I love fishing this stream, and I always leave there wanting another day to fish.
