After a a very wet few weeks in most of the state the water levels and weather were awesome in Northern Pennsylvania. June 5-8, 2011

Water levels started out at 200 cfs and moved to about 150 cfs, which is perfect for First Fork. The water was clear and about 68 degrees. It was typically overcast in the morning and cleared by about 10 or just before lunch. Warm and sunny except for Monday morning when we had some rain. Air temps ranged from about 60 to upper 80's.

The hatches were pretty prolific and predicable every day. The BWO ruled the streams as the best bet. Seemed every morning we had a #14 BWO coming off the water. The cool cloudy mornings really helped bring the hatch on. We ended up fishing up to about noon every day. Spinners were on the stream most of the morning as well.

Evenings were very sunny and we would hit the streams about 6:00. Not too too busy, but BWO's were a big part of the night. we saw #14 again, but Tuesday #20 BWO hatch came off about 8:00 and the stream went nuts for a while. Every night a large spinner fall hit with an mixed bag of caddisflies.

We would see a variety of other insects. A lot of discussion of seeing Brown Drakes, Green Drakes, March Browns, Slate Drakes, Coffin Flies, Sulphurs and unnamed spinners were all part of the evening and the day.

Had a great time fishing the hatches and jumped into the spinners falls at dusk. Plenty of time to through my B-52's on the water and catch plenty of fish. A lot of nice sized fish in the project.

Sky up there is awesome. Spent a few nights on the guardrail watching shooting stars and passing satellites overhead. Plenty of wildlife with a black bear visiting the camp while the guys were out burning some trash.

My friend Ron claims he was attacked by a chipmunk while in the water. Something about he heard some splash in the water and thinking it was a fish cast over to it and soon realized it was a chipmunk crossing the creek. Must be some new species of aquatic chipmunk appearing in Potter County.

Thats a nice fish 🙂

Did you give him crap for his cheeky pink hanker? Just teasing. Good report and nice pics. Its amazing how healthy the stocked fish look this year. I imagine all the rain has played a role in it.

wow i love that stream , glad to see you got some bwo action

Nice report Dave. I'm heading up to nearby Cameron county this weekend, but I may not get a chance to wet a line. We are celebrating my parents 50th wedding anniversary.

Dave, nice report. I like the in-flight mayfly photo. Didn't you try a few shots like that at the Jam? I was wondering how they came out.

Ron did pretty well fishing this past week. The bugs were pretty bad during the mid-day sun. I had to use my red hancherchief to drape over my head and under my hat to keep the flies off me. Key word for me is not pink, but he catches more fish so maybe the pink is important.

Jack I did try a few of those shots at the jam. These were much better. A hard shot to grab. I have some video I am still looking at to see if it worked of some trout rising.
