That's a good point! I don't love sulfurs because I like being on the water early even though they are great for all the reasons cited above. This time of year with daytime hatches of big mayflies is what's up.

Kettle does get some amazing hatches.

Personally, I will say Cicadas was probably the best hatch I’ve ever experienced. However I’ve seen some amazing PMD/and or sulphurs in tailwaters that were a very close second.

But as a yearly hatch, I absolutely love prospecting with a March Browns. Something about thinking “that spot looks fishy” and then being rewarded with a take and a great fish… there’s just something special about that. And there’s a particular stream that I have in mind that I enjoy more than others.

Agree the cicadas were very exciting last year. I only wish I had more than the few days I spent on them. I'll be ready next time!

The March Browns are great because they are a daily slow roll that seems to last many weeks. To your point of looking at a fishy spot and you can be pleasantly surprised with a strike even without a much activity at the time.

Sulphurs because they have been the most reliable over my lifetime.

Isonychias have been good to me as well and are close, as well as march browns.

Cicada's last year were far and away the craziest/most memorable hatch I've fished in PA. Catching big trout in the white water was something else.

Grannoms & Iso's might be my favorite PA hatches. Though I haven't been much of a hatch chaser, up until the last year or so.
