Headed up to CT for a long-awaited trip to the Farmington and Housatonic this past weekend. Unfortunately, the way things turned out, I got 2 days on the Housatonic and only 1 on the Farmington.
Fishing was brutally slow on both rivers. Rivers were both headed down after being high over the previous weekend, but bright sunny days (or whatever else it might have been) made for lousy fishing. The Farmington was very clear, with the Housy remaining off-color and low in clarity both days.
All in all, we manage to pull probably a dozen fish out in 3 days of fishing, but that was between 5 guys. The last day had a decent number of hookups, me me losing 5 fish in the matter of an hour.
Fish took a variety of nymphs including caddis larvae (12-16), isos (10-12), pheasant tails (16-20), princes (10-16) ... only saw about 10 fish rise in 3 days, presumably to midges or olives, and after we broke down our gear on Friday.
Still looking forward to heading back to these rivers, particularly the Farmington.
