Spent a couple hours on FS this afternoon: stream looked good - partly cloudy skies in the upper 30s. Water temp was a cool 45 degrees. No insects and no surface activity; saw one other angler. Streamers brought out some lookers but no hookers. Managed a couple fish on scuds but had to work very hard as the fish are especially skittish with the weeds mostly gone for the season and the leaves off the trees (they are always skittish in FS).

I did check a couple local freestoners and brookie streams while out and about today and they were iced over about half the stream channel.

Anyway, nice day to shake off some of the winter doldrums but I'll probably stick to limestoners until we get some warmer weather.

You may have seen us We left around noon. We had a few hook-ups but none landed. Takes were very light with nymphs. Glen wanted to see some more water so, I took Glen to a mountain stream were we did get some natives.

Glen liked the day so we are doing it again Saturday. That wind was a pain in the butt why we were there in the morning.

Nice report, Dave. It has been many, many years since I've had a chance to fish FS. Did you catch those fish on your new scud design? I really gotta make it a point to get out there and fish it again. Maybe this season will offer me that chance.

Yes - it's always good when the fish approve. 🙂

Hopefully we can get out and fish FS sometime soon. The section you and I mostly fished back in the 80s is posted but there are a lot of other areas to check out.

Yep, may have been you folks as I was upstream about 100yds.
Glad you has some luck on the mountain streams. I only looked at 'em from my car and the ice seemed pretty heavy.

We stopped by Caledonia state park. The colors of the brooks were amazingly brilliant. Much more color than April-June.

What? Are you kidding me? How in the world he improved on the last scud design I'll never know till I see the thing.
