Arrived at 6AM at Falling Springs Branch Heritage Section. First time visiting the stream. Was hoping to see some rising fish during the Trico activity - very limited activity. It was 78 degrees outside when we left Lancaster at 4:30, and was quickly in the 80's when we arrived at the stream around 6.

The water was clear and cold - 58 degrees. The tricos were out and about but no fish rising to the activity. We got skunked and left around 10AM.

Met some other guys on the stream that had not been there since the 80's. They reported that it was great to see the stream in such great shape and that alot of work had been done to improve the stream since that time. They reported zero fish caught and limited activity as well.

Beautiful stream - hope to be back there sometime soon when it cools down a bit - maybe that will help...

Next time try scuds (olive) with a san juan trailer (red) and you should catch a couple.

Where exactly did you go on the stream? In my humble opinion it really does make a big difference. There are certain sections of the stream that seam to have very few fish willing to rise, while other areas they are plentiful. The past few weeks i have fished it with decent results. THe hatch is seemingly getting stronger in recent years and that means more competition for the trouts attention.
Next time you go try the water in town on the other side of 81 or the edwards ave access above town.

I fished Big Spring this morning and I saw a decent trico spinner swarm over one of the sections close to Newville. Didn't see any risers though. I didn't know that these streams had tricos, it's a nice surprise.
