I found myself in Chambersburg at midday today so I spent my lunch hour fishing Falling Springs Branch. Gorgeous sunny, almost springlike day with bright sun always makes things challenging particularly on a stream like this. The water was low and clear and it was breezy with occasional stronger gusts that made keeping a tight line very difficult.
It was great to just get out on such a beautiful day as I spent more time walking than actually fishing. The warm sunshine and the constant chorus of the redwing blackbirds were almost therapeutic.
I managed to catch a few small wild rainbows in the 5-7” range (cute little buggers). I also stung a few, lost a few and spooked a few on my travels. I’m pretty sure that these were the first trout I’ve caught on Falling Springs in well over 30 years, so that was an accomplishment in and of itself. I’m really glad I took the time to stop and give it a shot.
