Date and time fished: 07/31/2014 from 0530 pm to 0800 pm
Weather and Stream Conditions: It was pleasant outside with temperatures in the upper to mid 70s with a mostly cloudy sky and a slight breeze. The stream was within its normal mid 50 degree temperature range and was running at a normal flow with clear water.
Insect Activity: Terrestrials with ants and beetles crawling around, we were fishing in the delayed harvest stretch and I did not notice any hoppers. I did not see any midges or mayflies coming off, but I did notice a small tan caddis hatch around 0730 pm.
Tactics: Dry dropper and high stick nymphing
Results: It was a productive couple of hours. My buddy was tight line nymphing and he caught three stocked browns in pretty short order with a size 18 flashback PT. I was dry dropper fishing with a yellow stimulator and I was switching nymphs underneath. Initially, I seemed to find every tree branch on my hook sets, but I guess you'll have days like that. I found a nice run and I took four trout in short order. Three were stocked browns and a nice wild rainbow in the 12 inch range. Three of the fish came on a serendipity style size 16 olive caddis pupa and the other came on a sow bug pattern. I only saw one rise all day, but I am not complaining. It was a good break from a busy work week.
