I fished Falling Springs Branch this morning with the hopes of hitting some tricos. I arrived at 0600am and I fished til noon. The stream was beautiful, 56-59 degrees, clear in some sections, but cloudy from all the ducks in others. I started out in the heritage section, and with nothing rising first thing in the morning, I threw some streamers, and I quickly hooked up with a couple small wild bows. I drove down to the funeral home area, where I saw Mike Heck Guiding, so I said hi, and just moved on downstream, into the delayed harvest section in town.

I saw a few trico spinners hovering, but it was real sparse, and I did not see many fish keying in on them. I fished a hopper dropper for the better part of the day, with a size 12 Dave's Hopper or Stimulator dropped with an 18 Tungsten PT. I took quite a few fish in town, mostly stocked browns with a few wild bows mixed in. Most of the fish took the dropper, but about 30% came up for the hopper. I found a nice riffle that was just loaded with fingerling wild bows in town, it amazes me that they stock down there, with that kind of population of wild fish.

I finished the day up top in the Greenway Meadow, and I took a couple wild browns on a beetle. What a pain to fish in that high grass, but the fish were cooperative. In all, a wonderful day on a beautiful limestoner...I could not ask for much more.

Great report! I was thinking about tricos today.

I like those pics - it's not many streams in PA where you get drab stockie browns and beautiful wild bows. Yuh gotta love the Cumberland Valley. 🙂

Great report. It has been sometime since I have fished Falling Springs in the DH area. I hear it keeps getting better and better!

Good seeing you Sunday morning. Sorry could not talk long-was kinda busy. That was the most anglers I have seen on the water all year and it went on all day.

Glad you had a good moring. The tricos just did not want to fall for some reason. Russ landed a few trout as well. Broke off a very nice on.

Must be the season. I fished the Saucon Saturday and the tricos were sparse and caught fish on a hopper since i figured i might as well try something that would get their attention.
