Falling Springs Branch 8/11/2007

Fished Falling Springs yesterday, covering much of the catch and release water. The trico hatch was fairly strong, and brought the fish up for about 45 minutes at the Edwards Avenue stretch. I managed to catch two on tricos and another on a Dave's Hopper. Has anyone fished the water below Rte 30? I've never bothered because the upper water is nice and fishing right in town isn't all that appealing.

I have done well below 30 but dont go as much for the reasons you stated. Plus there tends to be more stockies. Actually the trout thats being held by the fellow in PFBC "Bigger and better" poster campaign was caught down there near 6th st. 21" wild brown on a hopper.

"Bigger and Better" is the new PFBC slogan? And they used a photo of a wild trout to illustrate their bigger, better stockies?

I'm actually much more impressed with eth little girl who picked up the trash. Anyway, I too find it very ironic that they use a wild trout to push their stocking program.

I'm a little late on this post, but when I was in college I fished the downtown (below 30) section while the rainbows were spawning in the spring in the heritage waters and again during the fall because they used to always stock some big trout during the fall stocking in there. The trout holdover real well and there are a decent amount of wild browns in there. The biggest wild one I got was 16" right above mcdonalds. They stock that section pretty good but it always seems like people really suck them up when theyre allowed to keep them. Also on more than one occassion I've seen local kids bait fishing in the AFLO section and keeping fish, I said something to them but they just look at you funny...

However when the rainbows are done spawning there is no reason for me to leave the heritage waters. Gorgeous fish and amazing scenery, can't beat it.
